What is DPT?
The title “Doctor of Physical Therapy” (abbreviated “DPT”) Pakistan has a five-year program called DPT, which aims to improve the lives of Pakistanis.
Physical therapy is a subdiscipline of medicine and health science. Rehabilitation of those who have been disabled by an accident, trauma, operation, old age, any congenital or acquired disease, or a fracture and injury, especially those whose muscles, tendons, and bones have come to ground zero, is a significant focus of this field of work.
Restoring normal muscle strength and movement and increasing joint mobility are part of a physiotherapist’s job duties. One of the most important things is providing therapy to patients who have accepted their impairment as a part of their lives.
Because of this, patient counseling is needed. Depression and low self-esteem are common in these patients.
Motivating and supporting them is critical if they are to regain their healthy bodily functions.
A pre-medical degree such as an F.Sc. is typically required to enter the field of physiotherapy. An MBBS or a Doctorate in Physical Therapy can then be pursued by anyone who wants a career in which he or she can use his or her expertise to help others and earn a living.
Students who possess empathy and a concern for the disadvantaged should pursue careers in this profession because it is a good fit for their skills.
It’s also critical to have an interest in human anatomy and physiology.
MBBS and DPT students will have to deal with it for a considerable amount of time, possibly more than two years.
It is common for physiotherapists to work at a hospital or private practice. Also, rehabilitation centers include them. Elderly care facilities and retirement communities may also employ them.
Scope of DPT;
Physiotherapists create treatment programs for their patients based on their physical symptoms or other treatments. These programs, which usually include exercises, are designed to help people improve their balance and physical strength.
Physical therapists will be known for their work with athletes for the rest of their lives.
Physical therapists also work on health policies, health insurance, health care administration, and as health care executives when they aren’t taking care of patients.
As experts in the legal field of medicine, physiotherapists do peer reviews and independent medical evaluations.
As you can see, physical therapists play a significant role in the health care field.

DPT fee structure in Pakistan
Government institutions have reasonably priced fee structures. To enroll in an accredited university, students must pay a minimum of 900,000/-RS and a maximum of 1600,000/-RS over five years. Pakistan has a more moderate DPT cost structure than other countries. DPT colleges in Pakistan provide high-quality education at a reasonable cost.
According to management decisions, students with scholarships and other concessions would pay less. The payment may be paid in installments depending on the university’s regulations.
Specialization in DPT;
- Physiotherapist: Orthopedic
Bone and joint injuries are a significant part of their work. For example, a traffic accident, a sports injury, an accidental fall, tripping, etc., can result in a medical bill. Restoring normal or near-normal joint movement is their goal.
- Physiotherapists for the Elderly (Geriatric PT):
They work with the elderly as a part of their job. Older people are more likely to suffer from various conditions linked to a person’s inability to move their bodies. Parkinson’s disease, for example, is characterized by unintentional and frequently involuntary movements. Restoring a healthy balance of mobility is the goal for physiotherapists working with these patients.
- Physiotherapists working with children (Pediatric PT):
Pediatric physiotherapists have a tricky job. Down syndrome, Duchenne muscular dystrophy, and other congenital abnormalities are among the conditions they treat. They can not use the scan, not as youngsters of the same age group affected by similar illnesses. After a traumatic event, they help youngsters who need extensive surgery.
- Physiotherapists: Occupational
Some people are unable to return to work after an injury. It is a difficult circumstance because it leaves an entire family without a primary source of income. Occupational therapists help these people regain their ability to move normally to continue their employment.
If, for example, you are a motorist who was hurt while driving, you will need to go through physiotherapy before you can return to the road.
- Physiotherapists for athletes (sports PT):
Those who cannot participate in their chosen sports, such as cricketers, footballers, swimmers, or runners, might turn to these professionals for assistance. Physiotherapy is a vital component of sports medicine and should not be overlooked. All major sports federations employ physiotherapists to ensure their athletes’ long-term health and success.
Monthly salary;
According to the Pakistani Bureau of Statistics, the average annual compensation for Pakistani physiotherapists is PKR 322,952 or PKR 26,746 per month. PKR 26,000 per month is the starting salary for entry-level professions, while the most experienced workers can earn up to PKR 190,000 a month.

How difficult is the study of DPT?
When you start doing placements, physiotherapy is more than just doing assessments, giving exercises, and helping people get better. People react to their illness in different ways emotionally, and their thoughts, feelings, and beliefs will all affect how well they get better. For patients to stick with their treatment, it will be essential to build a relationship with them and set goals together.
Understanding the psychological paradigms that underpin people’s health beliefs and how to modify and personalize your approach to each patient is critical for more holistic health care. We all enjoy learning about anatomy and how things work in the real world, but you can become a better clinician if you understand and consider this paradigm early in your studies.
Physiotherapists are uncommon. Work alone or with experts such as occupational therapists, speech therapists, dietitians, nutritionists, psychologists, and consultants. It involves both knowing things and assisting others. It necessitates a disciplined approach to learning, yet it is more interesting than complex. You will succeed if you want to learn. I’ll develop a passion for what I do for a living. Physiotherapy is an excellent career choice.
When we are unsure about what we should be studying, Put it another way, when we are uncertain about what we already know and what we still don’t know about a subject. As a result, when we talk about studying, they have no notion where to begin.
In other words, physiology is not for the faint of heart. It’s demanding work, but it’s also highly gratifying. You have to enjoy what you’re doing for it to feel like work!
It all depends on whose university you attend! In terms of time, many of my companions found their first year the most difficult. There are obstacles in the other years as well.
For this program, I recommend Lovely Professional University. In keeping with the global trend of healthcare and rehabilitation, the physiotherapy discipline aims to train professionals as generalists and specialists in orthopedics, neurology, cardiopulmonary medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics, gynecology, and sports medicine.
The curriculum is compared to the world’s most prestigious academic and clinical institutions. It is further enhanced through research projects that aim to improve patient care application and judgment skills.
During their internships, the students gain experience in hospitals across Pakistan.
My recommendation? Go to a few open days and talk to students and lecturers to get a better feel for the courses.
